Free events in NYC for every day of the week (end of Summer/start of Fall list)

Let’s state the obvious: NYC isn’t cheap. It’s a city where a studio the size of an ordinary walk-in closet will run you $2,000, where one routinely drops $15 on a glass of average wine, and where most people spend $20+ on lunch every day (though it’s possible to feed yourself for a full day for the same price).

In the city that drains your wallet at every step, I was surprised to learn that entertainment in New York City can be basically free. You can literally do something interesting every day of the week and not pay a dime.

To prove my point, I found a random sampling of events for the rest of the Summer & early Fall. Most of the events are heavily skewed for fitness and music/food, which is my preferred jam. But I guarantee that you will find a free event YOU like too – just check out and of course, (with the filter “free” in search).

Me doing yoga in Times Square – an annual free event during the summer solstice.

Here’s my list:

7PM -11PM: Jazz at Bierhaus

8PM -10PM: Side Ponytail Comedy

8AM-9AM: Meditation on the High Line

6PM-8PM: Rooftop Jazz (until Aug 28)

OR Sunset Salsa in Hudson River Park  at 6:30PM – 9PM.

OR Secret Science Club at 7:30PM (must show up at the door at 7PM!)

8PM: Movie in the park (in the summer, there are free screenings across NYC parks nearly every day, not only on Wednesdays!)

6PM-7PM: Yoga in Bryant Park

7PM-8PM: Cookie Baking Lessons

8PM-10PM: Comedy at Offside Tavern

On Aug 16, 2018: Jazz at Pier 84

10AM-11AM: Coffee Tasting

On Aug 17, 2018: Comedy at Black Cat LES (any other Friday is also free entry, but you need to get 2 drinks)

On Sept 21, 2018: Oktoberfest at Watermark

10AM-2PM: Kayaking NYC

On Aug 18, 2018: Park Blues 97 at Pier 97

10AM-2PM: Kayaking NYC

10AM – 5PM: Grand Bazaar NYC

note: most of the events on the above list are recurring on a weekly basis

Summing up: Get out there! Budget or no budget.

I try to do something interesting after work every day. After all, this is one of the greatest benefits of living in New York – the plethora of events for every taste. Here, everyone can find something they love and when it comes to entertainment, the fun can be free!

And you know what they say – the best things in life are… 😉
